Obama Hoyee!

that means go obama! i wanted to share my experience of the election from tanzania. besides listening a little to bbc talking about the potential of this election on my shortwave radio, the only thing i really results i would get from the election would be wednesday morning (tue night in the states) at the acropol hotel (run by a canadian) which had cnn streaming the election. our training director had arranged for us to have a little viewing party, and though the majority of us are obama fans, we were still anxious to see the results. as polls on the west coast were closing, a rain storm here knocked out the satellite feed and we had to endure some more tension, until we found out that obama had won via texts fro the US or the wireless internet the hotel had. fortunately the feed came back, right before obama's incredibly inspiring acceptance speech, and we all cheered and got goosebumps as we watched our next president speak so eloquently. even the mccain fans in the house were impressed. i guess i wanted to say that even if you are republican or don't like obama, it is hard not to agree that the man has the ability to captivate people and i think the whole world hopes that he is able to create real change and difference in a time where many are struggling and the us has lost a lot credibility...but enough of my political analysis...

on another note, africa loves the man. i can't go around morogoro without someone saying they like obama when they find out i am an american. they even have t-shirts and kangas (fabric with ndiyo tunaweza (yes we can) written on them with his image). i'm hoping to procure some of those! and kenya got a national holiday to celebrate his victory for god's sake! here's to a productive next 4 years (and beyond)....
